Dallas’ DART adding bike racks to 650 buses by end of year

9

— Beginning in November, DART will be installing bike racks on 650 buses, to be completed by the end of the year. Each rack holds two bicycles. They're also adding 20 bike lockers at transit hubs.

Anyone can use it, but DART's target audience is low-income commuters, and here's the relevant quote from DART's manager of consumer products: "We're not marketing it to the so-called spandex crowd..." The "so-called spandex crowd", you are on notice. You'd best be ready to justify your usage of the bike racks.

Thing is, the "so-called spandex crowd" would have no interest in using them.

Out-freakin'-standing! Our office is moving near a TRE station and that would be my only glitch in taking it down from the frozen north. Excellent!

Not me it confirms that my backside is fat. Chris, we have a lot of denial to work through don't we? ;o)

I'm still waiting for a monorail to be installed on top of the Tollway.

And I'm still waiting for futurama-style human pneumatic tubes. But will those have bike racks...?

I am still waiting for the star trek way. teleportation is as basic as warp drives and dilithium crystals.

No, teleportation is a little too good for it's own good. There would be no need for bikes at all! And then what would we do with all the spandex?!?!?! A world-scale daily reccurring version of the ice-capades perhaps? (shudders at the thought)

Nah - DARTs got it all right. By only "mostly" providing travel to where we need to go and making us walk or bike the rest their really doing a huge service: "Keeping North Texan asses slightly toner and helping novelty bicycle horn manufacturers everywhere stay in business". You know what... me thinks that should be their new slogan!
