Dallas’ The SoupMobile announces plan to open transitional shelter
Recognizing that there are simply not enough shelter beds to go around in Dallas the SoupMobile has announced a plan to help.
Realizing that most "homeless shelters" offer a room for a night, the SoupMobile Shelter plans to offer a different approach, providing short-term, transitional residences for six months. During their stay each resident will be assisted in gaining employment and money earned will be set aside for their future housing. At the end of the six month period they leave the shelter and use the money they have saved to pay for their own permanent residence.
The SoupMobile has been on the front lines of battling hunger and homelessness since 2003. In those five years, they have progressed from serving 5,000 meals a year to serving over 125,000 meals per year.
The SoupMobile will remain committed to continuing their feeding program. However, they believe as crucial as the feeding is, even more important is providing shelter to the homeless.
