Mexican artist presenting painting to Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert in big hoo-ha ceremony on Tuesday
His paintings are privately owned and displayed in the homes of former Mexican President Vicente Fox, internationally famous singing artist Juan Gabriel, and many other Mexican celebrities.
DALLAS To commemorate events in Dallas that symbolize Mexico's historic past celebrated by descendants residing here, Mayor Tom Leppert will formally receive an artistic landscape canvas by Mexican artist Luis Valentin on Tuesday, September 16, at 11:15 a.m. in the first floor foyer at Dallas City Hall. During September, the community celebrates Mexican Independence Day on Monday, September 15, a date which coincides this year with the start of Hispanic Heritage Month in the U.S.
The painting being presented to the city was introduced to Mayor Leppert at this year's Cinco de Mayo Parade and Celebration that is produced by the Oak Cliff Coalition of the Arts (OCCA) as a gesture of thanks for the city's annual participation and support of the long standing event on Jefferson Boulevard and other cultural events. The painting will remain on display for viewing at City Hall.
Valentin, who was born and resides in Apaseo El Grande in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico, recently won a nationwide competition of major artists to have his landscape depiction selected for the front cover of the State of Guanajuato's major national tourism publication, Haciendas de Mexico. His paintings are privately owned and displayed in the homes of former Mexican President Vicente Fox, internationally famous singing artist Juan Gabriel, and many other celebrities in the country. He will be on hand to present and describe his painting to Mayor Leppert as a gesture of good will from his country and his city of origin.

Meanwhile, we have city government who can barely afford to take care of the potholes and run a zoo, yet they have time to accept this guys painting...This city has some screwed up priorities...
