Half Price Books holding food drive to benefit hurricane victims

0

Half Price Books and Feed the Children are teaming up for a food drive benefiting hurricane victims in the Houston area. The drive will take place from noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, in the parking lot of the Half Price Books off Northwest Highway in Dallas.

The community is encouraged to donate bottled water, non-perishable food, and ready-to-eat snacks that do not require heating, cooling or cooking. Examples are granola bars, peanut butter, crackers, canned meat, fruit and vegetables, pasta (for the soup kitchens), jarred baby food and hard candy. Feed The Children will ship all of the donated items to those in need in the Houston area, where they will be distributed via relief teams to those in need.

“Since members of our own Half Price Books family were affected by this disaster, we understand the community’s desire to pitch in and help those in the Houston area,” said Kathy Doyle Thomas, executive vice president of Half Price Books. “This is a great way to personally get involved and get much-needed supplies those in need during this difficult time.”

Disaster relief teams in the Houston/Galveston area ask that no clothes, toys, books or other similar items be donated at this time.
