For the fourth consecutive year, the city of Colleyville is sponsoring the “Mayor for a Day” contest. The essay contest is open to Colleyville residents in grades 2-7. All contestants must submit a one- to two-page essay addressing what they would do, as mayor, to improve and enhance the lives of Colleyville citizens. Students must live in Colleyville to be selected.
This contest provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young students to realize they can influence the world around them. The winners are guaranteed a very special day with a behind-the-scenes view that few have a chance to experience.
The contest deadline is Friday, Oct. 24. The winner will serve as honorary mayor on Wednesday, Nov. 5, touring city facilities and meeting with department heads, and co-presiding as mayor at the Colleyville City Council meeting.
Contest entries may be dropped off in the City Manager's Office (third floor of City Hall) or at the Colleyville Public Library. Entries also may be emailed to gandym@ci.colleyville.tx.us or faxed to 817.503.1129. Contestants may also mail entries to: Attention: Mayor for a Day, 100 Main Street, Colleyville, TX 76034. All entries must be received by Friday, Oct. 24.
