Federal officials arrest 22 Gulf Cartel members in North Texas, 175 nationally
Of the total 175 arrested in "Project Reckoning," a federal crackdown on the Mexican Gulf Cartel, 22 came from North Texas raids. Area officials seized 300 kilograms of cocaine and 400 pounds of methamphetamine, totaling $16.5 million, in addition to $1 million in cash and 20 weapons. The local and national seizures of drugs were record-setting.
The Gulf Cartel uses 1-35 as its main trafficking line, making Dallas a distribution point. The group, of which a third is now in federal custody, has connections with Italian organized crime.
