Greek Festival of Dallas set for Sept. 26-28
The Greek Food Festival of Dallas returns Friday, September 26th for three days of authentic Greek food, music, shopping and fun.
The city's Greek-American community will swing open its doors for the 52nd consecutive year to share its rich hospitality and culture. Delicious cuisine and pastries authentically made in the festival kitchen, spirited live music and dance, and a marketplace brimming with imports, will transform the corner of Hillcrest & Alpha into Dallas' own Greek island. The festival is presented by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Dallas.
Favorite features include the Groceria (stock up on everything from spices and cheeses to olive oil and olive trees); the cooking school (ongoing demonstrations by real Greek foodies); and the pastry store (where baklava, is just one of many scrumptious choices).
The wide-ranging marketplace or Agora features imported goods as well as the creations of Greek-American artists and artisans, including "Olympic Artist" Rip Kastaris, whose commissioned work for the Beijing Olympics will be displayed, and Dallas artist, photographer and gallery owner M.K. Semos.
Live Greek music, ongoing performances by the colorful festival dancers, tours of the church and its Byzantine iconography, and the Greek Cultural Center all add up to an exhilarating three-day Greek-style celebration.
A gala preview night hosted by Honorary Chair Ebby Halliday will kick off the festival on Thursday evening, September 25th. Benefiting Holy Trinity Academy, the event is a fun-filled Greek party including hors d'oeuvres, an open wine and beer bar, a seated Greek feast, first-choice shopping in the marketplace, a silent auction, lively entertainment, and Greek music and dancing. Please visit the festival website, www.GreekFestivalOfDallas.com, for ticket information and other details.
On Friday, September 26, Lunch-To-Go, will provide pre-ordered plate lunches for curbside pick-up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The festival will officially open Friday at 4 p.m., with dinner from 5 to 9 and activities until 10:30. The festival continues Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to plate lunches and dinners, A Taste of Greek Dallas will feature a la carte specialties from Greek Café & Bakery, Greek Isles, Opa! Grille, and Stratos.
