Irving League of Women Voters plans post-debate public discussions at Central Library

0

The Irving Central Library (801 W. Irving Blvd.) will host live, big-screen, open-to-the-public broadcasts of the upcoming presidential and vice-presidential debates in their facility's auditorium.

Following the broadcasts, the Irving branch of the League of Women Voters (ILWV) will moderate a public discussion on the issues raised during the debates.

Says Carol Huntley Little, president of the ILWV: "We’re delighted to provide people with the chance to become informed about the issues, and to reflect on how the proposals of the candidates can impact their lives.”

The presidential debates, pitting upstart wunderkind Barack Obama against grizzled veteran campaigner John McCain, are scheduled for 8 p.m. on both Sept. 26 and Oct. 15; the vice-presidential debate is set for 8 p.m. on Oct. 2, with Tina Fey's alter ego, Sarah Palin, loading up with live ammo to take on Joe Biden - who has his own reputation for shooting from the hip.

Let the fireworks begin. Oh, and congratulations to Palin for winning those Emmy Awards last night. (No, wait...)
