MPAA opens anti-piracy branch in Irving
File under the "news to us" category:
The Motion Picture Association of America is opening an office in Irving devoted to catching bootleg film distributors in the act of illegally duplicating and marketing movies.
According to MPAA officials, North Texas is a veritable hotbed of such activity, with "well organized" operations involved in the enterprise.
While I grew up (long, long ago) thinking of the MPAA as a ratings board, it now appears they're as much about RAIDING as rating.
NOTE: a call to Laurie Kunke, Corporate Communications Director for the City of Irving, confirmed that the Irving PD has not been contacted by the MPAA in regard to the new office or its planned activities.
