The State Fair opens today.

Best Bites: Well-known restaurateur Mike Herrera died after a 19-hour wait in the Parkland ER ... Stephan Pyles is opening a new tapas restaurant ... Gay List Daily liked Dali Wine Bar, while The Law Reviewers were more tepid on South Side's Sala.

Game: The Cowboys continue to roll, while the Rangers managed to end on a high note, at least ... The Cupcheck delves into Chris Pronger's beautiful mind ... Our college teams are on the road this week ... UTD has a new Spirit Rock ...

Schools: There's little to be said about area ISDs this week that isn't tragic, depressing or scandalous: It looks like the upshot of the DISD budget debacle will be more than 1,200 lost jobs (in many places where they can't afford to be lost) ... A Wylie city councilman had to resign his teaching position because of a faux diploma ... DeSoto schools, at least, are reporting a mixed bag in their road to recovery ... And the Lewisville ISD finally let a renegade banana and his gorilla frienemy off the hook.
