Theater Spotlight of the Week: Lorey Hayes
New interview with director of Jubilee Theatre's For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf.
Interview with Lorey Hayes, Director of For Colored Girls...
Jubilee Theatre has brought in accomplished Broadway actress, Lorey Hayes, as a guest director for their newest show, longly titled For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf. Being in the original cast of the show, she made for a great feature this week.
We start off by talking about what got her to direct at Jubilee and why she wanted to direct this show. She talks about being part of the original cast, and how it is different now to direct the show.
With such a long poetic title, I ask Ms. Hayes what the title means and what the playwright was trying to accomplish with these words.

I ask how her stay in DFW has been, and she discusses what surprises her about our theater scene and how it compares to NY and Chicago. She also mentions what she has been doing around the community as a theatre artist.
As always, I ask what she wants the audience to walk away thinking, and she discusses the different style this piece has than its original Broadway production.
