Keller middle school student interviewed by police without parents’ prior knowledge, consent
The 12-year-old daughter of Kristen Signorelli was taken out of class at Indian Springs Middle School and questioned by a male Keller police detective earlier this month as part of a sexual abuse investigation involving a neighbor of hers.
The girl's parents were not notified of the Keller PD's intentions to question their daughter (who turned out not to have any knowledge of - or involvement in - the case), and this raises issues involving the school district's policy (which was, in this case, not followed); the Keller PD's policy (which was sort of followed, but not followed up on); and the Texas state policy - which, it turns out, doesn't require consultation with parents prior to carrying out investigative interviews involving their children.
