TEA commissioner threatens takeover if Dallas ISD doesn’t get its budget cutting act together

Um... DISD board... guys?
Um... DISD board... guys?

As noted on Wed. (Sept. 17) and updated a couple of times since, the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) - not unlike other operating entities, such as - oh, let's say - every major lending institution in the U.S. - is in deep financial doo doo, and is struggling through the effluent to find a way out.

Since the DISD board decided on Thurs. (Sept. 18) to postpone any action on DISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa's proposed staff/teacher layoff proposal, Texas Education Agency Commissioner Robert Scott has gotten involved in the fray, threatening to take matters into his own agency's hands if the Dallas board doesn't act quickly to resolve their impressively gigantic (in terms of municipal school districts) budget shortfall.

Some school board members are saying that they don't feel any particular sense of urgency as a result of Scott's dire warning.

Given their record of postponing important decision-making agendas, one wonders what WOULD cause the board members to feel a sense of urgency.

Travis Bush, says:

Agreed! We have all these reports of fraud, mismanagement, bickering, and inappropriate use of school funds, in more than one district. I am beginning to think that the people at the top have absolutely no conscience. It isn't like ruining a business.

It is more akin to growing up with heroin addicts for parents. Neglect and abuse become commonplace. It is not acceptable for individuals to do this to children, and it shouldn't be for school districts. Maybe we should get the TEA and CPS involved.
