UT Arlington holds gala groundbreaking festivities for new Engineering Research Building
UTA
Computer generated rendering of what the new Engineering Research Complex at UTA will look like when completed. (Note the shadows under the faux trees - ain't computers great?)
The University of Texas at Arlington broke ground Fri. (Sept. 26) on their new Engineering Research Building, designed as the 230,000 sq. ft., environmentally-friendly lynchpin of UTA's engineering research complex. The building is scheduled to be completed by early 2011.
The $116 million new building project is moving forward in concert with a $22 million expansion of the Engineering Laboratory Building, scheduled for completion in summer 2009.
Fortunately, there was barbecue on hand for the gala groundbreaking ceremony, during which UT Arlington President James Spaniolo made the usual sorts of "great day for the school" comments and then picked up a shovel to turn some soil.
Here's a detailing of the university's plans for the complex, complete with 3D roving camera video.
