2008 All About Uptown Festival
The 2008 All About Uptown Festival in Dallas took place on Saturday, Sept. 27, which was a makeup date as Hurricane Ike forced the postponement of the original date. 17 food vendors (18 if you include Starbucks) and various other vendors lined a two-block section of Fairmount Street between McKinney Avenue and Howell Street, proffering their food and wares (for a price, of course).
Six different bands performed throughout the day; Mount Righteous, a Progressive Big Band from Grapevine, performed during my tour of the festival. There was also a tent set up for chefs from eight different Uptown restaurants to perform a cooking demonstration for audiences. Two chefs from The Fish Sushi Bar & Grill showed a woman how to make sushi while I was there.
The festival also had several different tours of Uptown going on, including riding the trolleys, taking a tour through the various cemeteries in the area, and taking a bus ride to look at the homes in the State Thomas Historic District. I took that last tour, which also included a stop at the Freedman's Memorial just off Central Expressway.
