— Sunday store hours at Spiceman's F.M. 1410 have changed to "appointment only" or catch me if you can...if you see my white suburban out front and the gate is open then come on in.

Something in general about the seasonal produce I procure is that

it shows up from lifetimers, new tryers,

back yard, urban, rural or from the Ayers.

Farm-market relationships wax and wane over years of seasons,

peak and valley with the rains or reasons.

Why there was or wasn't a bounty,

and it varies from county to county.

Segue from summer to fall a difficult period long in toothe here in N. Texas... longing for something transitional, something not summer nor fall. Mix it up... treat yourself and others to ripe Texas:

Fuyu Persimmons now @ $18 single layer flats. Jar them up as preserves, chutneys, glazes, sorbet?

Wild Persimmons in a week.

Asian Pears from Mexia, Tx. these are very firm pears though ripe, a very crisp-juicy and sweet surprise also great for cooking.

Winter Squash from south Texas - Acorn, Buttercup, Butternut, Calabash/Mx., Curry Squash, Delacata, Gold Nugget, Hokaiddo, Hubbard/Blue and Red, Mosque du Provence

Fresh Shelled Legumes - a nice fall flush of zipper cream and purple hull peas. I once spent 3 pair o' jeans pickin' peas n' beans off of low, fall bushes.

Sweet Potatoes - not out of my league.

No more fetching Corn from Kansas or Tennessee Tomatoes this year, well... maybe a case or two.

Sundance Farms, Navarro County, TX certified organic: Baby Asian Red Mustards, Tatsoi, and Mizuna Mustards, Arugula, Purple Plum Radishes.

Texas Honey with comb.

Texas Olive Oil, EVOO unfiltered from JIM HENRY'S TEAXAS OLIVE RANCH

I have some new products to sample from Texas Olive Ranch. Come get samples of Texas Black Olive Lover's Spread, Smoked Artichoke Spread, Roasted Tomatillo and Chipole Spread, and let me know what you think about them.

Certified Organic Apples from Billy Bob Orchards, California: Mutsu, Braeburn, Cameo, Jonagold

Lakeside Organic Farms, Monterey County, CA: Tuscan Black Kale. aka Lacinato Kale or Dinosaur Kale; Rainbow Chard, Baby Broccoli, Red Bell Pepper, Gold Bell Pepper, Blue Lake Beans, Yellow Wax Beans, Little Gem Romaine (Green or Red) solid little loaves of lettuce.

Wild Mushrooms/Oregon: Chanterelles, Chicken of the woods, Lobster, Porcini

Cultivated Exotic 'shrooms: Abalone, Beech, Clamshell, Crab (or Shimejii), Hen O' Woods aka Maitake, King Trumpets, Shiitake/Babies.

Dried Herb and Spices: Perique Tobaco, les freaque, tres chique St. James Parish Louisiana; Wild Sumac, Sundance Farms/Navarro County, TX; Wild Fennel Pollen/Pacific Coast Hwy 1 /CA.

Mini Head Lettuces: Baby Mixed Head Lettuces, aka BMX Lettuces (red Oak, Green Oak, Lollo Rosso, Tango)

Spiceman's hours are from 10:am to 5:pm Mon - Sat, by appointment only on Sundays.
