With college back in full swing, theater departments all over DFW are gearing up to begin their newest season. Texas Christian University is about to open the very moving play The Laramie Project which will only run from September 30 - October 5 with no performances on October 4.
The Laramie Project was written by Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theatre Project about "the night hate became a crime." Laramie, often referred to as the “gem city of the plains” was the site of the brutal murder of Matthew Shepard, a 21 year-old, gay, University of Wyoming student. On November 14, 1998, members of Tectonic Theatre Project traveled to Laramie, Wyoming, and conducted interviews with the people of the town.” The play is “edited from those interviews, as well as from journal entries by members of the company.” The play is about the town of Laramie, its citizens, and their reaction to Matthew Shepard’s murder.
