Thursday

Todd Snider comes to the Dallas House of Blues with the Yonder Mountain String Band on one stop of his 28-city tour. Snider's latest EP, Peace Queer sat atop the Americana Music Association Airplay Chart for several weeks. You can bet at least one PegNewser will be there in full, "I (heart) Todd Snider" fanboy apparel.

Friday

The Riverboat Gamblers recently released their latest, Underneath the Owl, which has been met with favorable criticism. Friday's show at Club Dada is the last time this once-Denton punk band will be in the area as they set off on a couple tours this Spring and Summer, first with Florida's Fake Problems before opening for Rancid and Rise Against in several cities (but not here).

Over at the recently reopened Longhorn Saloon, James "Slim" Hand plays with the Quebe Sisters. Bob Cole, a Country Music Hall Of Famer is quoted as saying, "In over 30 years of playing country music, I have never, absolutely never seen anyone as unique as James Hand... Simply, James Hand is country music, and he has no equivalent." Probably worth it at least to see if he's right. Right?

Saturday

The Deep Ellum Arts Festival started on Friday, but you know you can't just leave work and go to it. So check it out on Saturday (and Sunday) and catch a myriad of local musical acts. Austin glam rockers Mothers Anthem close out Saturday night on the Copasetic Stage.

If glam rockers aren't how you want to end your night, perhaps skip on over to Arts Fifth Avenue in Fort Worth for the Remembering James Clay event. Clay was a tenor saxophonist from Dallas who played with a number of jazz greats. At Arts Fifth Avenue, musicians and friends will share their memories during a spoken segments of the program, which includes a concert, in addition to Clay's recordings played during intermissions.
