More stars came out than expected, as it turns out. (April Fool's!)
Enlarge photo | View thumbnailsScanning the AFI-provided tip sheets that press folks were handed to prep for the VIP promenade Wednesday evening (April 1), there weren't a lot of big names expected - aside from funnyman and actor Patton Oswalt, whose performance in Big Fan brought him to the carpet.
(This is not to downplay the excitement of meeting the filmmakers behind Dungeon Masters, Like Dandelion Dust, Oil Change, Undone and etc. - I'm just saying that they are not household names. Depending upon the household.)
The other feature of interest was the expected arrival - auf Fuß - of Dallas-based filmmaker Sai Selvarajan, who had informed everybody and their maiden aunt prior to the event that he would be running a half marathon from his home in Oak Cliff directly to the NorthPark red carpet - where he would then resort to a slow walk, presumably, with intermittent pauses for conversation and/or photo ops.
And thus it turned out to be, though there were a couple of delightful (to my mind) surprise guests who made an appearance, including the lovely Janine Turner (currently starring in Friday Night Lights) and the no less lovely Monique Parent, who had just served as a panelist at the Victory Park Lounge discussion on "Men and Women Onscreen: Are the Movies Scared of Sex?". (Good question.)
Props to Brandon Pope for giving us another view of things (and getting his photos up so quickly).
Enjoy the photos.

I wish I would have had a better response when one of the panelists from LA scoffed at the ad that ran prior to the films. “Is that Dallas culture, a safety-pin and a paper mache rabbit?”
But then, how do you respond with anything other than “Yep, pretty much.”

C'mon, jtmbls, you need to get into that "Northpark: the Art of Shopping" mindset.
