Dallas ISD principal, football coach on leave after student paddling incident

The student was beat with a wooden paddle between 10 and 21 times by his coach, hit hard enough to split the board.

Lincoln High principal Earl Jones and head football coach Jerry Sands have both been placed on "leave" as result of an investigation into a Spring 2007 paddling incident.

A Lincoln football player was kicked off the team, but after football coaches could not agree on whether he should be allowed to return, the head coach decided that if the player received "licks" with a wooden paddle, he could come back. The student agreed to the punishment and Sands, with other coaches witnessing, proceeded to paddle the student hard enough to split the board. After it split, he taped it up and continued. The reports from coaches and the student vary in how many times the child was hit, between 10 and 21.

According to one assistant coach, the student was having trouble walking the next day and was twice sent to the school nurse who referred him to a physician. Sands has been on paid administrative leave since September, while Jones was given a 20-day suspension for failure to appropriately handle the situation (he effectively did nothing). Jones will be reassigned to another school.

Not saying that I believe that this was an appropriate punishment, because it isn't. But you are not right in your judgement.

I took 7 licks after the 'rents signed off that I couldn't be hit. Tried keeping it on the low but a big-mouthed friend tipped them off. Drama ensued and this particular baseball coach was forced to resign at the end of that school year.

Unfortunately, that occurred in the off-season and a starting spot I worked hard to win was for naught since he could finish out the year. It was one of my few true passions in life. Not naming any names, but you know who you are - and if you're reading this, I hope you had to suck dicks to make ends meet...you witless waste of flesh.
