Tequila Rain, new Mexican restaurant in Hurst, has mom in the kitchen

Tequila Rain Cantina and Grill is a new Mexican restaurant in Hurst that's been a dream of owner Eliazar Salinas, 25, ever since he was 13.

"We're authentic Mexican -- no chili con queso," Salinas says. "All of the food is made by my mother, Maria Dejesus Salinas."

Her specialty is guisado de res, but Salinas says their "selling point" is their enchiladas. "We don't make them like anyone else around here," he says. Another unique featured dish: parrilladas, which he says is similar to fajitas, in that it's served on a massive platter with lots of sizzle.

"But we do different meat, like sausage, beef ribs, and you get a lot -- two people can eat for $14.35," he says.

They also serve menudo daily, unlike most restaurants where the tripe stew is strictly a weekend offering.

Salinas is originally from Detroit; his parents worked for General Motors. They also once owned a tortilleria.

The 88-seat restaurant, located in the spot previously occupied by Ron's Bar-B-Que, has a full bar whose margarita selection includes not just a house margarita that's $3.50 all day, but also a specialty margarita called the Azulita that's made with cane sugar. And if all that's not enough, they serve breakfast, too.

"It's a lot of work, but we have so much stuff we can do," he says.

This place really is awesome! I'm glad to see Pegasus giving cred to the Mid-Cities.

Let me understand this......Eliazar's dream is that he has mom in the kitchen doing all the work?

Have I got that right?
