Alumni, students and friends of North Side High School will gather on Friday, April 3 to formally dedicate the field to Coach Ludiker.

A native of Fort Worth, Homer E. Ludiker graduated from Riverside High School.

After serving with the United States Marines, he attended Texas Christian University on a football scholarship. While in college he set a record for kicking continuous extra points and earned the nickname of “Golden Toe.”

Mr. Ludiker began his teaching and coaching career at J. P. Elder Junior High in 1951. In 1953, he became the baseball coach at North Side High School. Coach Ludiker’s teams won district championships in 1955 and 1957. Under today’s playoff system with multiple teams advancing to the playoffs, Coach Ludiker’s teams would have been in the playoffs every year of his tenure.

Mr. Ludiker coached the North Side American Legion baseball team each summer with the team reaching the state finals in 1956. He became the head football coach at Arlington Heights High School and later became an assistant principal. In 1974, he became principal of William James Middle School, and two years later was appointed principal of Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School.

Mr. Ludiker retired after serving the education community for 37 years. He continues to keep in touch with the former North Side High School students. He serves on the board of the North Side High Legacy Foundation, a non-profit organization working to provide assistance to the teachers and students of today.
