TWU’s James receives David K. Brace award from state association
Texas Woman’s University health studies professor Dr. Gay James recently received the David K. Brace Award from the Texas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD).
According to TAHPERD, the David K. Brace recipient exemplifies the best in service, teaching, administration and research by an individual who has been an association member for at least 10 years and has at least 20 years of experience in their profession.
“I have had the good fortune to work with many faculty and administrators who support professional associations and faculty involvement in them,” said Dr. James, chair of the TWU department of health studies. “It is a tremendous honor both personally and professionally to be recognized by your peers for an award such as the David K. Brace Award.”
Prior to joining TWU in 2006, Dr. James taught at Texas State University (formerly Southwest Texas State University) for more than 20 years. She has written and co-written several textbooks and articles on health education and is a member of several state, regional and national health promotion organizations, including the Texas School Health Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
Founded in 1923, TAHPERD is a non-profit professional association of more than 4,500 members and is the only association in Texas serving education inhealth, physical education, recreation and dance. For more information, visit www.tahperd.org.
