Cafe de France founder opens Chez Moi, new concept, in Frisco

— Frederick Gilani, who founded the Cafe de France chain, has resurfaced in Frisco with a new concept called Chez Moi, serving what he says is the only authentic French north of the Dallas area.

"We are French, although we have multiple cuisines -- German, a little bit of Italian, all of that," Gilani says.

It's a tiny spot with eight tables that seats 32 -- "very cozy, French cafe bistro style," he says. They don't have a liquor license, so they're pouring complimentary glasses of wine. Customers are also allowed to BYOB, although they have to bring their own corkscrew, too.

Executive chef is Keegan Corless, previously chef at Isabella's Bistro. Specialties include Beef Bourguignon and rack of lamb. Prices are relatively low, starting at $6.95 and topping out at $15.95.

In the same Frisco shopping center, Gilani is also opening a casual buffet concept called Cafe de France Nouveau. Similar to a La Madeleine, it'll open in about four to six weeks, Gilano says.

In its early '90s heyday, there were four area branches of Café de France, which Gilani eventually sold to various buyers, including family members. A branch is still open in Dallas and there are outlets in Colorado, as well.

I wish he knew what he was talking about . What does a zoo have to do with a French cafe? The French are known for their good taste; he should learn . I love this cafe . A+ .
