FC Dallas falls to 0-3-0 in the young 2009 MLS season with a loss to the New England Revolution on Saturday at Foxboro Stadium. The Revs season opener, Dallas managed to score the opening goal in the 38th minute when Dave van den Burgh caught up with a long cross, knocking the ball back to Kenny Cooper who finished with a close shot into the back of the net.

Despite the lead going into halftime, Dallas was unable to hold off New England for its first win of the season. Going to a 3-5-2, the Revs picked up play in the second half, getting their first goal in the 56th minute when Shalrie Joseph sent a long diagonal cross to Sainey Nyassi who beat his defender and rifled home a left-footed effort. Dallas lost it in the 80th minute when defender George John pulled on Kheli Dube's jersey in the box, giving Steve Ralston a penalty kick and the easy goal.

NOTES:

· FC Dallas is now 0-3-0 on the season and 9-22-1 all-time against the New England Revolution.

· FCD is winless in six consecutive games against the Revolution and has not recorded a win in the last six played at Gillette Stadium.

· Tonight was FCD’s first road game of the season and the loss snaps an unbeaten streak in the previous eight road-openers. Dallas is now 3-5-6 all-time in the first road game of each season.

· Kenny Cooper tonight scored his second goal of the year, finding space inside the six-yard box to tap home a Dave van den Bergh cross. It was the first assist of the season for van den Bergh.

· Goalkeeper Ray Burse started his second straight game of the season and 10th of his career. Burse made two total starts in 2008.

· Six changes were made to the team’s starting lineup since last week’s loss to Chivas USA. Michael Dello-Russo got the start at right back, pushing Drew Moor to central defense alongside rookie George John. Andre Rocha started on the right side of the midfield, allowing Dax McCarty to slide to the attacking midfield role, and moving David Ferreira up to forward.

· For John, it was both the first start and appearance of his career.

· It was the first start of the year for Rocha, who in 2008 made 26 starts and led the team with eight assists.

· For Dello-Russo, it was the third start of his four-year career.

· Daniel Torres was slated to start in central defense, but was a late scratch due to tightness in his right hamstring. Defender Steve Purdy, who had started the first two games of the year, missed tonight’s game with a strained right hamstring. Goalkeeper Dario Sala (left knee) and defender Marcelo Saragosa (right knee) missed their second and third consecutive games, respectively, after each recently underwent knee surgery.

· Gillette Stadium attendance was 11,314.

· FC Dallas will head back out on the road next Saturday, April 11 to face Toronto FC at BMO Field (3 p.m. CT live on KFWD-52). Toronto today fell at home 2-0 to the Seattle Sounders FC.

· Head Coach Schellas Hyndman on the game: “I think the boys really worked hard. I challenged them to match the intensity of New England and I thought we did. You’ve got to have some sort of result to show for it. If you’re going to work real hard, you want a paycheck. You want to show something for your hard work and that’s the discouraging and disappointing part.”
