Legendary jazz drummer and composer Peter Erskine will be guest artist at The University of Texas at Arlington's 23rd Annual Spring Percussion Bash at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Texas Hall. Erskine has recorded and toured with many top jazz and rock artists, including Maynard Ferguson and Steely Dan.
Erskine is scheduled to be on campus April 20-23 and will teach several classes, including an open clinic and master class at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 20, in Texas Hall.
"Erskine brings the perfect combination of artistry, composing and teaching," said Michael Varner, associate professor of percussion.
In addition to his solo work, Erskine will be accompanied by the UT Arlington percussion ensemble on a number of his compositions for drum set and ensemble. The UT Arlington Jazz Orchestra, directed by Tim Ishii, also will appear with Erskine.
The "Bash" features the campus percussion program ensembles, including the Marimba Ensemble, African Ensemble, Brazilian Ensemble, Tamboo-Bamboo Band and the Contemporary Percussion Ensemble. The $10 admission fee will go toward scholarships for UT Arlington percussion students.
Call 817-272-2526 or visit www.uta.edu/music for more information. Erskine's appearance is sponsored by DW Drums, Evans Heads, Vic Firth Mallets, Hudson Music, Alfred Publishing and Zildjian Cymbals.
