Barbara Jordan Media Awards Luncheon set for Arlington’s new Cowboys Stadium

At 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 12, the annual Barbara Jordan Media Awards Luncheon will be held in the new Cowboys Stadium, with four-time paralympian (and gold medalist) Randy Snow doing keynote speaker duties. This year marks the first time that Arlington will serve as host for the event.

The Texas Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities created the media relations program to recognize the contributions of individuals and media organizations in their role of helping to eliminate attitudinal, social, and physical barriers and encourage accurate and progressive portrayals of people with disabilities. The award is named in honor of the late Barbara Jordan, a person with multiple sclerosis, who championed the causes of individuals with disabilities as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1973 to 1979.

The awards luncheon (with vendors!) will be open to the public and includes tour opportunities to showcase accommodations for stadium guests with disabilities. Tickets are $50 per person, and they go on sale April 17. Online registration and additional details are available here.
