Kids and family events in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, April 8-14
Another week, another set of widely varied events for kids, teens, and families. On tap this week are the a literary classic presented as a play, an art exhibition featuring Dallas ISD students, fun on the streets of Plano, and a non-Easter related bunny story.
Starting on Thursday, April 9 (with additional shows on Friday and Saturday) is Treasure Island at the McKinney Performing Arts Center. Part of Word of Mouth Productions' Literary Classics Series (which has already included Aesop's Fables and The Pied Piper), the play will also show at the Frisco Arts Center starting on May 1.
Friday, April 10 is opening day for Dia de los Niños at the Ice House Cultural Center in Dallas. Featuring the artwork of students from six Dallas ISD elementary schools, the exhibition (which runs through May 2) celebrates the potential of today's youth and offers the viewer a glimpse at the artists of tomorrow.
Kidsfest 2009 will be taking place in downtown Plano on Saturday, April 11. Among the activities will be an Easter Egg Hunt for children, pictures with the Easter Bunny, bounce houses, and a petting zoo.
Speaking of Easter, Sunday, April 12, being Easter Day, is chockful of bunny- and egg-related fun. Why not think outside the box and check out one of the last performances of The Tale of Peter Rabbit at the Rosewood Center for Family Arts? The tale of the naughty bunny has been showing since March 20 (and will wrap up its run next weekend), and Easter offers not one but two opportunities to see it.
