Theater Spotlight of the Week: Angela Wilson

Interview with Angela Wilson, Playwright of God Goliath

This week, Wingspan Theatre Company is presenting a staged reading of God Goliath written by local playwright, Angela Wilson. Taking place in 1915, the play deals with the encounter of Dr. Weiss, Houdini, and the household Cook, who all have their own ideas for a cancer cure.

With such an interesting concept, we delve right into the interview by talking about how the idea for God Goliath originated. She talks about how it's been in the works for quite some time, and the process it took to get Wingspan Theatre Company to produce the staged reading.

Because it is set in 1915, she discusses how it relates to a modern audience. She elaborates on what part she played during the rehearsal process and what she hopes to accomplish from the production. I ask what the most challenging aspect was in writing God Goliath. I also inquire on what she wants the audience to walk away with.

On another note, Angela Wilson is also co-founder of a reputable theater company, Theater Quorum. Since it has been awhile since a play has been produced by them, I ask about the status of their season and she hints at what audiences can expect soon.

God Goliath will be performed on Thursday, April 9th and Friday, April 10th, both at 7:30 p.m. There will be a post show talk-backs on both evenings and Ms. Wilson will be in attendance. The admission charge is pay-what-you-can. Call 214-675-6573 for tickets or by emailing wingspan@wingspantheatre.com.
