Woman calls 911 on Haltom City restaurant for lack of shrimp
A woman who was upset that A & D Buffalo's in Haltom City didn't give her the extra shrimp she requested in her shrimp fried rice order called 911 to report the dastardly infraction. The operator, as you can hear below, was apparently so stunned that she promised to send an officer out, instead of, you know, laughing and hanging up.
Important sidenote: Police do not consider this to be an illegal use of 911 because she was never obscene or abusive. So next time you have a problem with your order, feel free to call the police! I'm sure they'll be more than happy to resolve the issue for you.
I need my shrimp, dammit!

So it's not illegal to call 911 for non-emergency reasons so long as you are polite?
I'm going to start calling just to chat. I hope everyone will be considerate enough to not get into any car wrecks, start any fires, or choke on any food while I'm on the line.

With some of the restaurant reviews around here, this could readily become a standard of rating, whether 911 was actually invoked or not.

Technically, by law, this could be considered petty theft (not the tom petty cover band)as it is under 50 dollars. But, here again I say that our society is slowly but surely sliding towards sheer and utter idiocracy...

Wouldn't our friend Scot consider this a valid use of 911? After all the 'consumer/taxpayer' wasn't getting their money's worth.
Sarcasm fully engaged...

Trav - you underestimate how mellodramatic reviewers get.
And AnnMarie - I think Scot and I both would agree this taxpayer deserves a citation for wasting potentially critical resources.
The day anyone's friggin' shrimp ranks up with a fire or choking or assault ... I'll eat my shoe. And while the Police would be nice about it, if I over heard her, I'd take her over my knee and spank her myself.

Not the first time I've heard of something like this. Anyone hear about the woman who called in about her chicken nuggets? Not sure if I got the right link (with the full version) but what makes this one so great is that they've got a reccording of the woman calling back for the 3rd time to check on the officer, and see what was happening with her McNuggets... genious!
