Last chance to see 6 plays and musicals (Apr. 10-12)
With it being Easter, you have a good opportunity to see some shows that are closing, so make sure to take advantage of it:
- Some People, presented by Project X. About an ordinary Dallas suburb. The husband, wife and kid, relatives, neighbors, and friends—some people who hear voices, stare off into space thinking of nothing, and have no idea how they got there. No matter how they try the world makes no sense. Is it a dream? A comic routine? What’s going on? As time and space fold and spin something happens to some people we know. Things are different…and they like it. Call 214-421-2400 for tickets ($15).
- A Raisin in the Sun, presented by African-American Repertory Theater. Tells the story of a family living and struggling on Chicago's South Side in the 1950s. It is a fiercely moving portrait of people whose hopes and dreams are constantly deferred. The universal themes are very much relevant today. It was the first play written by an African-American woman to be produced on Broadway. Purchase tickets ($15-20) online or by calling 972-572-0998.
- Art, presented by Circle Theatre. A witty, thought-provoking comedy about friendship, art, and how we define ourselves, the play explores a long-term friendship. Can three friends come to terms with the purchase of an expensive piece of modern art? Art was written by Yasmina Reza and translated by Christopher Hampton. It was the winner of the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play and will be directed by Jaime Castaneda. Call 817-877-3040 for tickets ($20-30).
- My Fair Lady, presented by Artisan Center Theater. Everyone loves this timeless story about the cockney flower girl, her magic transformation into a genteel lady and the professor who falls in love with her. One of the greatest musicals ever written comes to life on our stage. Won’t it be just “loverly!” Call 817-284-1200 for tickets ($6-15).
- Heaven Can Wait, presented by Irving Community Theater. Celestial blunders? Angelic mishaps? Please, say it ain’t so… But when Mr. Jordan, (an angel), checks the records for Joe Pendleton, (a boxer), he finds that Joe isn’t due in Heaven for another 60 years! Comedy ensues as the saintly mistake proves very difficult to fix. But you can be rest assured that all the confusion ends heavenly. Purchase tickets ($13-18) online or by calling 972-252-2787.
- Harvey, presented by Granbury Opera House. Purchase tickets ($10-15) online.
