Keller changes trespassing ordinance to ease up on skateboarder penalties

Keller has created an ordinance allowing police to issue a Class C citation for criminal trespassing in order to control their issue with skateboarders. Businesses have been complaining of skateboarders trespassing, however under Texas State Law trespassing is a Class B misdemeanor and would stick to any teen's criminal record. As a result, police aren't arresting the kids, leaving little incentive for them to stay away from private property. Now, Keller police can ticket the skateboarders for trespassing. Now all they need is a skate park and everybody's happy.

Instead of spending Keller's money for them, Eisenberg's in Plano does a brisk business.

I say, ticket the kids, and use the proceeds to build the park.
It should be ready in about ~35 years. I figure by then those kids will have kids of their own that can use it!

In San Antonio skateboarding is punishable under a Class B misdemeanor. That means you go straight to jail and it stays on your record. As a result, we lobbied the city for years and now have nine public (free) skateparks with more in the works. I really hope Keller will do the same. They had a skatepark on the plans years ago and nothing ever happened with it.

Well, yeah, a park would be great...but where? Downtown?
Imagine being able to ollie high enough to do a heelflip onto a rail, land goofy into a grind, only to end up on top of a sleeping street person at the end of the rail. That sucks!
I'm just sayin'.

@Jason Rice the major problem with Eisenberg is it cost money to visit and is always busy... meanwhile the football/soccer/baseball diamond are only used seasonally (and then only once or twice a week) but give all kids an opportunity to get off the street for the cost of a pair of cleats and a ball. Skateboarding's only expense is a cheap skateboard and can be enjoyed any day the concrete is dry.
@Rick Yost skateparks are usually built in sketchier parts of town. This is two fold; first, the folks in the fancier parts of town are afraid skaters will bring along graffiti, drugs and other illicit behavior (which btw rarely happens as skaters don't want to ruin a good thing either) and the Tony Hawk Foundation will help fund skateparks in lower income parts of town to give kids with fewer options a chance to get involved with a sport that cost little and practice is rewarded.
The park in Allen is just a few blocks from city hall, the park in Houston has one of the best views of the skyline around, in Lafayette, LA it's right across the street from the University... point is if the park did move downtown the only thing it would do is get the skaters in the park and out of downtown (City of Dallas, you could learn something from this lesson)
Oh, and if you did a healflip onto a rail (the ollie part is alliteration as you must do an ollie to do a healflip) and landed goofy into a grind... you'd be landing switch, not goofy.
I'm just sayin'.
Needless to say, I say build it. I'm an adult, I skate and when I travel, I make it a point of seeing where parks are between point A and point B to visit. And I always leave money behind in said city, could be tanking up for gas, grabbing a meal or getting a hotel, but tax dollars are left in a town odds are wouldn't see a dime of my money otherwise

Haven't seen ant Tony Hawk involvement here in Dallas, but any little skater boy afraid to go to "sketchy parts of town" to really skate, might want to try out for band.As well, if it were the case THawk did something here..the kiddies would be on it like flies on sewage...no matter what part of town it was in.
