Recap: Supreme Warrior Championship MMA in Frisco

Supreme Warrior Championship continued to give MMA fans in North Texas reason to cheer as they staged their latest MMA promotions Saturday night at the Frisco Convention Center.

In the evening’s main event, Johnny “Brutal” Bedford of Fort Worth displayed how he earned his nickname as he bludgeoned and battered Jeremy Dodd of Allen in walking away with a first round stoppage victory.

Bedford wasted no time in getting the action started as he shot out of his corner like a rocket. After taking Dodd down, Bedford opened up a barrage of hard punches and elbows that left the referee not other option but to waive a halt to the bout.

The official time of the stoppage was 2:11 into round one. With the win Bedford rebounds from a loss in his last fight and improves his record to 18-7-1. “I’m back and I’m going to the top,” Bedford stated after the fight. Jeremy Dodd falls to 1-2 in defeat.

In the night’s co-main event Dallas based veteran Ira Boyd escaped with a three round unanimous decision over Jason Evola of Portland, Oregon. The fight was devoid of sustained action neither fighter could take the lead in aggression. The end result was a lot of ground work with no pay off.

All three judges scored the fight 29-28 in favor of Boyd. “I’m sorry for my lackluster fight, but I didn’t get to train properly,” Boyd stated to the crowd following the fight. With the win Boyd improves his record to 6-6-1; Evola falls to 1-2 in defeat.

In what had to be the most action packed fight of the night, Isaac Villanueva of Houston earned a rousing TKO victory over Daniel Andrews of Sherman, Texas. Both fighters came out firing bombs at each other but after eating three concussive right hands Andrews was all but out on his feet prompting the referee to waive off the bout.

The official time of the stoppage was 2:44 in the opening round. With the win Villanueva makes his professional debut a memorable one as he improves his record to 1-0; Andrews drops his professional debut to fall to 0-1. After the fight Villanueva was jubilant declaring, “All I do is swang and bang, and floss.”

Justin Miller of Frisco, Texas continued to prove why he is one of the regions most ballyhooed prospects with a dominant display, submitting opponent Curtis Hall of Ashland, Ohio via rear naked choke.

The official time of the submission was 0:57 seconds into the opening round. With the win Miller remains undefeated with a record of 2-0; Hall falls to 1-2 in defeat.

Brandon Smith of Dallas scored an impressive first round stoppage victory over Jaydon Wells of Oklahoma.

The official time of the stoppage was 1:00 in the first round. With the win Smith improves his record to 1-0; Wells falls to 0-1 in defeat.

Frank Barragan of Dallas gutted out a hard fought battle to submit opponent Navied Sadeghi of Houston via rear naked choke hold in the third round.

The official time of the submission was 1:58 in round three. With the win Barragan improves his record to 6-2; Sadeghi falls to 3-2 in defeat.

Dustin Bedford, Toledo, Ohio, looked impressive in his professional debut submitting Nicholas Bailey by a choke hold in the first round.

The official time of the stoppage was 2:57 in the opening round. With the win Bedford improves his record to 1-0; Bailey falls to 0-4 in defeat.

Chris Vasquez gutted out a tough three round decision over Sean Ward.

Scores were 30-27, 29-28, and 29-28 in favor of Vasquez. With the win Vasquez improves his record to 2-2; Ward falls to 2-3 in defeat.

Aaron Withrow of Sherman, Texas engaged in a brawl with Angel DeJesus, Greenville, Texas ultimately stopping his opponent in the second round on strikes.

The official time of the stoppage was 1:33 in the second round. With the win Withrow begins his career with a record of 1-0; DeJesus falls to 0-1 in defeat.

Frisco, Texas based Davis Sylvester dominated an out-matched Chris Kearny, submitting him in the first round by a rear naked choke.

The official time of the submission was 1:25 in the opening round. With the win Sylvester remains undefeated with a record of 3-0; Kearny drops his professional debut to fall to 0-1.

In the night’s opening bout, Frank Ortega, Frisco, Texas was able to submit LJ Lindley of Greenville, Texas via rear naked choke in the first round.

The official time of the submission was 2:38 in the opening round. With the win Ortega improves his record to 1-1; Lindley falls to 2-1.
