League of Women Voters to hold Arlington candidates forum
On Monday, April 20, 2009, the Arlington League of Women Voters will host a Candidates Forum for Arlington City Council and School Board contested races in the May 9 local election. The forum will be held in the AISD Administration Building Board Room at 1203 West Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Doors will open at 6:00 pm.
Mayoral candidates (Aaron Bickle, Robert Cluck, Jerome Pikulinski, Lane Weston and Stephen J.L. White) are scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm.
City Council candidates Districts 3 (Robert Rivera and Marvin Sutton) and 4 (Richard Weber and Kathryn Wilemon) are scheduled to begin at 7:15 pm, and City Council candidates District 5 (Michael Driscoll, Terry Meza, and Lana Wolff) at 7:50 pm. City Council members serve for a two-year term.
Arlington Independent School District (AISD) candidates contesting for a full three-year term, Place 1 (Luis Castillo and Gloria Pena) and Place 3 (Aaron Reich and Cheryl Smith) are scheduled to begin at 8:20 pm.
The League will video the forum and DVDs will be available for purchase at $10.00 each. LWVA Director Barbara Prabhu will be the moderator.
The League is also producing a free VOTERS GUIDE that will be available on-line after April 13th at www.LWVArlington-tx.org.
The League of Women Voters of Arlington is a nonpartisan organization whose purpose is to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation in government of every citizen. The League does not support any political party or candidate, but does take positions on issues after study and consensus by its members.
