CitizenKane, says:
The federal government (IRS) estimates that the per mile cost to operate a vechile is about $0.40/mile.
On a typical 80-mile round trip commute (FW/Dallas/FW), the estimated cost to the driver is about $32 per day.
By those standards the $7.50 round trip rail ticket is a steal and tax payers should be funding this service at such a ridicously low level.

CitizenKane, I'm all for public transport, but you gotta remember that some people factor in other, uh, factors. When I visit my friends, I drive my car instead of taking the bus, even though it's more expensive, because it's more convenient, faster, etc. Ain't all about money.
On another note, I wonder how many people are really going to have trouble affording even the $7.50

Although I guess people who are already taking the rail and complaining about the high prices have already done the cost/benefit analysis in regard to the comforts of driving your own car.

It will STILL be a good deal, I have used it many times, it is fast and fun,..AND crowded! But it gets the job done, especially if you are too tired to drive nowadays! Hey everyone by the way!!

Not to mention, what decade are you in Kane? The <a href="http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=200505,00.html">IRS standard mileage rate</a> is $0.55 this year.
