Dallas begins Asian American Cultural Center master planning process

DALLAS — The City of Dallas is pleased to announce the start-up of the planning process for a feasibility study and master plan for an Asian American Cultural Center. This plan is one of the projects funded through the 2006 Bond Program. The project includes four components: preparing a needs assessment; defining a building program; developing site criteria; and assisting in the development of financial strategies for the project.

To invite broad community involvement in the master planning process, a series of open town hall meetings and workshops will allow Dallas citizens to learn about the project and to share their thoughts about current and future cultural and community needs. Citizens are encouraged to visit the Office of Cultural Affairs' Web site for project information, upcoming meeting dates, or to participate in an online survey. A steering committee of community leaders will meet periodically to represent the greater community while reviewing project data and advising the project team.

At the end of each phase of the master planning effort, results will be brought back to the community and to the steering committee for review. A final report is expected to be completed in late 2009.

Master planning for the proposed Center is a joint effort under the stewardship of the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs and the Public Works & Transportation Department. The City of Dallas has engaged the architectural firm HOK to conduct the study and master planning process with support from consultant team Sustainable Places, Sustainable Organizations.
