AIA Dallas celebrates Architecture Month with “Retrospect” exhibit
Mall walkers and shoppers alike will find a new attraction at NorthPark Center this month at the 18th Annual “Retrospect” exhibition honoring national Architecture Month.
The exhibit runs April 14- 26 on NorthPark’s first level, between Macy’s and Victoria’s Secret. It features 50 large architectural sculptures, building models and assemblages from 50 Dallas architectural firms, Skyline High School and The University of Texas at Arlington School of Architecture.
Mark Hopper, AIA, chairs the 2009 exhibition which showcases the influence of quality design on daily life and the built environment.
‘Retrospect” is presented annually by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Dallas Chapter and the Dallas Center for Architecture.
“It has become a popular attraction for NorthPark mall walkers and shoppers over the years,” Hopper said. “On Tuesday, as architects and students installed the 50 kiosks and multi-dimensional models and sculptures, onlookers came by as early as 7a.m. to tell us they wait each year for this always-fascinating exhibit. And they always cast their votes for their favorite exhibits,” he added.
This year, exhibitors include: CamargoCopeland Architects, Merriman Associates/Architects, Rees Associates, HKS, Good Fulton & Farrell, Edwin Brantley Smith & Associates, Callison, Raymond Harris and Associates Architects, Corgan Associates, Basic Architecture & Interiors, Stephen B. Chambers Architects, HNTB Corporation, t. howard & associates, Wernerfield, Techon, GSR Andrade Architects, 5G Studio, Beck Architecture, Gensler, Mesa, HDR, RTKL, HOK, Aldridge & Magers Architects, the Dallas Center for Architecture, Winginton Hooker Jeffrey Architects, Alliance, Perkins + Will, and Demarest Architects. The University of Texas at Arlington School of Architecture and Skyline High School also contributed exhibits.
