Assassination City Roller Derby to pay tribute to glam in David Bowie-themed bout

4

On Saturday, April 18, glitz, glitter and glamour reign supreme as the ladies of Assassination City Roller Derby's all-star team, Special Ops, take their protein pills and put their helmets on for a long overdue rematch against San Antonio's Alamo City Roller Girls. Keep an eye out for veteran ACRD skaters like Red Hot Rage and Brandi Danger as they join forces with up-and-coming skaters like Illegally Blonde and Miley Virus in an all out ballroom blitz that won't soon be forgotten. Illegally Blonde can't wait to skate as she declares, "If making the competition eat my dust is a crime, find me guilty on all charges!"

As an added bonus, a special "Cougars vs. Kittens" mash up bout will be played directly after the first bout, pitting the women over thirty against the women thirty and under. The Kittens have the endurance and the need for speed, but will their roar be enough to intimidate the more experience Cougars who know their way around the track? Hotroddin' Gin doesn't seem to think so. "Bring it on, Kittens. This ain't my first roller derby."

There will be games, prizes, facepainting and live music from Thin White Dukes (a David Bowie tribute band) and DJ Sista Whitenoise to get you in the glam slam mood. Whistle sounds at 7:30pm, but bring your grill and be there at 6:00 for the parking lot tailgate party, where you can take a first peek at the awesome Dyna Glide Harley being raffled off by the Scorpions M/C! BYOB (no glass) to Dad's Broadway Skateland in Mesquite. With a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Dallas Womens' Foundation, tickets are $15 at the door or $12 in advance at Plucker's on Greenville, HD Tavern in Lewisville, Dad's Broadway Skateland, or online at acderby.com. As always, kids under 10 get in free.

So pack your cooler, your lawn chair and your best glittery platform boots, and head out to Assassination City, and let's "Get It On"! And as always, our world famous after party (immediately after the bout) is at Lee Harvey's in Dallas. Come buy your favorite derby girl a drink...she's earned it!

Assassination City Roller Derby, a proud member of the nationwide Women's Flat Track Derby Association, will host its 2009 regular season home games on the third Saturday of every month--beginning in April--at Dad's Broadway Skateland in Mesquite.
