Dallas Arboretum to celebrate National Public Gardens Day

0

If your Live Oak is lethargic, your Bermuda grass is barely hanging in there and the outlook for your roses is less than rosy, then this is your opportunity to get your garden growing in the right direction. To celebrate National Public Gardens Day on May 8, the Dallas Arboretum will be offering the opportunity to win a “house call” from one of their staff horticulturists to provide in-person, expert advice on improving the health and beauty of your lawn and garden.

The first-ever National Public Gardens Day, Friday, May 8, is a day of celebration to raise awareness of America’s 500+ public gardens and their important role in promoting environmental stewardship, education, plant conservation and water conservation in communities nationwide. It was created as a partnership between Rain Bird, the leading manufacturer and provider of irrigation products and services, and the American Public Gardens Association.

The Arboretum, located at 8525 Garland Road, employs 30 full-time horticulturists to tend the park’s 66 acres and hundreds of thousands of plants and trees. For instance, the Arboretum is home to more than 3,000 azaleas and more than 200 varieties each of ferns and camellias. During Dallas Blooms, there are more than 450,000 blooming bulbs and 100,000 spring annuals and perennials planted, and beds are replanted throughout the year with the changing seasons.

If you would like the opportunity to have one of the Arboretum’s “plant doctors” answer your specific questions and prescribe steps to improve your lawn and garden, email a note of 100 words or less between now and May 10 to helpmygarden@gmail.com, explaining why your garden needs assistance from the Arboretum experts. One entry will be selected, and one of the Arboretum’s professional horticulturists will make an appointment to visit your home before the end of May.
