Talk about your bona fides. (Don't worry, he does.)

Early in April I got word from the Dallas Film Commission that KD Studio - best known for their actor training programs for film, stage and television - was rolling out a new film school course consisting of an intensive 15-month curriculum designed to get students up and running in the filmmaking game.

Graduates of the program (the first session of which is set to commence in June of 2009) will find themselves with an Associate of Applied Arts Degree in Motion Picture Production - but what would this mean in terms of actual knowledge, skill level and marketability?

To find out, we scheduled an interview with the man signed on to direct the program, Andrew Stevens. I, being (how best to put this?) "seasoned," remembered Stevens from his career as an actor, but was less familiar with his more recent production credits, which turn out to be equally extensive. (Plus, he literally wrote the book - or at least a book - on film production, namely Foolproof Filmmaking. Which you will receive a copy of when enrolling in the program, never fear.)

We get the lowdown on KD Studio's new film school.

Having visited his website, I was aware of Andrew's bona fides - though you may be surprised at the list of films his various production companies have churned out over the last decade or so. He continues to produce movies, and notes that the other instructors signed on for the KD Studio Film School program are also active in the industry.

For further lowdown on the new KD Film School program - which, by the way, will cost you somewhere north of $38K (all inclusive) - contact the KD Studio people at 214-638-0484.

I'm surprised they didn't mention in this article that he played the recurring role of Casey Denault in the TV series "Dallas."

... and thank you for mentioning it, dd!

Were you, perhaps, also surprised that I didn't mention that Andrew's mom is actress Stella Stevens?

(Because I was.) ;>)

Back in the "Dallas" days I do recall reading about his mother, but I had forgotten about it until now.
