Fort Worth’s Main Street Arts Festival brings quality art, music to Sundance Square for a 24th year

Artists from all over the country have converged on downtown Cowtown this weekend.

It's time again for Fort Worth's Main Street Arts Festival, and (aside from possible inclement weather) it will not disappoint. This is the 24th year for the festival and over those 24 years it has gained recognition as one of the best art festivals in the country. Art festivals tend to have a reputation for featuring mediocre, non-local art and a poor attempt at music. After a quick browse through some of booths, the art at the Main Street Arts Festival is definitely of a higher quality than most art fests, and some of the work is exceptionally good. While the majority of the attending artists are not local, there is a good sprinkling of folks from the metroplex and the state so keep an eye out for them if going local is your cup of tea. The music also provides a quality lineup of mostly blues and jazz artists, so you can sit and listen some good music while pondering how pissed your wife/husband/"it's complicated" would be if you spent $3,000+ on a very large but cool-looking eyesore for the back yard.

While the festival is free, they will definitely get you with the food and drink situation. You pay by tickets, which are worth $.75 each (you get a little discount if you buy the strip of 12 for $8). Your best bet is probably to forget the fair food and eat (then get sauced) at one of the establishments in Sundance Square, or bring a lunch and spend all your money on lemonade or alcohol, depending how you roll. The festival continues through Sunday.
