Texas Farm Bureau website dishes out info on average cost of groceries
The Texas Farm Bureau has begun doing a quarterly statewide food cost comparison study to find out much folks are paying - on average - for their vittles.
Here's the current report (for first quarter 2009), but note that it's a rather large-ish .pdf file.
In a nutshell (though nuts are not one of the monitored food items), you could have expected to pay 3.85 for a gallon of milk, 3.08 for a box of corn flakes (14 oz.) and 5.68 for a generic half gallon of ice cream - whatever that might be.
The item with the most variability in price range turned out to be a pound of turkey sandwich meat, which sold for as little as 2.99 per pound and as much as 5.23. (What's up with that?)
