City of Rowlett warns residents of 2010 Census activity

ROWLETT — The City of Rowlett is assisting the US Census Bureau with preparations for the 2010 Census and wants residents to know that the first step in the process is to verify all addresses within the City.

Census Bureau employees have already started the task of verifying all addresses in the City by walking door to door in every neighborhood in Rowlett. They not only do they have to visibly verify the address, but they are required to actually knock on every door to get a verbal verification of addresses, even if the address is clearly visible. The process began in late March and should be completed before summer.

At no time will the Census Bureau employees need to enter your home.

The Census Bureau Census employees will be carrying a hand-held GPS devise, a shoulder bag with US Census Bureau markings, and a photo ID badge. Please ask for the badge for identification, and again, there is no need for the worker to enter your home.

The accuracy of the 2010 Census is very important to our community as it determines the amount of Federal funding that Rowlett can receive and it determines our legislative representation.
