Big D Opry premieres in Dallas April 30

The Big D Opry will feature the top major and independent label country, bluegrass and gospel artists from the great State of Texas and beyond. The first concert will be held Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Fellowship Dallas (9330 North Central Expressway at Central & Park Lane), 6:30 p.m. Doors, Show is 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.

More than a dozen artists will perform. There will be a singer-songwriter segment along with a talent competition and the audience will get to vote for their favorite new artist. Aspiring artists can email a sample of their music in by April 28 to win one of three finalists spots to perform on April 30.*

A special appearance will be made by Cory Procter of the Dallas Cowboys, together with other surprise special guest appearances to be announced.

The Big D Opry will mix modern talent with the rich history of songs, songwriters and artists of country’s past and for the first time create great ‘Opry’ moments in Dallas with the following artists:

Star De Azlan

Star De Azlan

Star De Azlan (San Marcos) is a Curb recording artist and the first Hispanic female country artist to be signed to a major international recording label. You’ll see her face featured on Curb’s NASCAR racecar at Texas Motor Speedway. Star got her start at the Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos where George Strait was discovered and most of his band members played for her. She is currently on a radio tour with Tommy Foote, George Strait’s tour manager. Her current single “Like A Rose,” which she wrote, can be heard on Texas radio. Raised within a culinary family in San Antonio, she is also the host of the cooking show “Mex It Up.” Star, who sings in five languages will perform at July’s Country Fest in France with Jo Dee Messina before 20,000 people. Star’s booking agent Jorge Pinos and publicist Sandy Friedman of Rogers & Cowan both worked with Selena before her untimely death. They feel she is destined for superstardom.

Jolie Holiday (Dallas) is Chevrolet’s NASCAR spokesperson and native Texan perfomer that blends pop country sound with the traditional tone of her voice making fans harkens back to Reba, Wynonna and Patsy. Original songs include: “A Real Good Day,” “All The Good Ones Are Gone,” “Blues Lesson,” “I’m Coming Home To You,” “Driving To Hollywood,” “I Don’t Need Champaign,” “Let Me Love You,” “Mr. Man In The Moon,” “Stubborn,” and “This Is Me.”

Tejas Brothers (Dallas) Their debut self-titled album is a blend of Tex-Mex country blues. The March 2009 Country Weekly review said the “entire disc is marked with strong playing, nice vocals, and convincing lyrics…those in need of a nice starting point to Texas music educational journey need look no further than the Tejas Brothers.” They won The Dallas Morning News/Quick DFW’s “Big Thing” for “Best Live Act,” and “Best Album Collaboration” with Eleven Hundred Springs in 2008. Formed in 2006 in Fort Worth ’s historic stockyards, they play genuine Texas music and are one of the most booked and popular regional acts in Texas . Their music conjures elements of what we love of the the greats from Doug Sahm and the Texas Tornados to Delbert McClinton to Dwight Yoakum.

Brittnee Lee (Dallas) is a teen sensation from Garland who has performed nationwide and won several notable talent competitions including the USA World Showcase in Las Vegas . She is the first high school student ever to be inducted on the wall of honor at Richland Junior College and will graduate high school at 18 with her diploma and associate’s degree. She has performed at the Garland Opry and the State Fair to large audiences. Her new CD “Purpose” shows off her versatility as a singer and maturity as a songwriter with “The Perfect Catch” and “Don’t Drink and Drive.” Her songs have been chosen as the anthem for many charitable organizations.

K.R. Wood (Austin) is a native Texan, Singer, Songwriter and Historian. He has performed throughout Texas for the past decade at public and private schools teaching Texas history through song and narration based on his FATHERS OF TEXAS CD’s of which the newest release is “DAVY CROCKETT’S FIDDLE PLAYS ON, LIVE IN THE ALAMO”. K.R. Wood is up for a Texas Musician of the Year 2009 nomination from the Texas Commission on the Arts. He is featured in the new book Music of the Alamo which features a foreword by Genesis’ Phil Collins who saw K.R. Wood perform at the Alamo and is working on projects with him.

Bailey Grey (Tyler) won Music Row’s 2008 Country Breakout Artist of the Year and was signed to Lofton Creek Records. She performed at Nashville’s Hard Rock Café at the 2008 CMA Festival and her current single “Beach Weekend” is now on the Billboard Charts. She has had three top 15 hits on the Texas Music Charts and three top 5 hits on the National Independent Country Music Chart and scored 28,000 spins on the Music Row chart with her debut.

Paul Eason

Paul Eason Band (Austin) – Paul performs everything from Red Dirt to Americana to Texas Shuffle. He has had multiple singles in the top 10 on the Texas Music Chart including “One More Dance” which topped at #3. His last album Keeping It ‘Tween the Lines’ title track charted at #13. A graduate of Houston’s High School for the Performing Arts like Beyoncé Knowles, Paul wanted to stay in Texas to explore his love of Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett and Pat Green so he accepted a jazz scholarship to Texas State. He is currently touring with his band to support his current album “The Mountains of Nuevo Leon.” Paul’s band features fiddle player Paul Brunner and steel guitar player Glenn Shankle who has played with Neal McCoy and Cory Morrow.

Adam Paul Williams (McKinney) is the new face of contemporary Christian music with four albums to date. Adam Paul possesses the unique talent of bridging generational and international gaps when he performs. He is booked throughout churches and venues throughout the United States . His newest single from his fourth self-titled album “Unrestrained” has just been released to radio. Critics and worship leaders call him a “superb tenor.”

Other artists who will perform include singer-songwriters Dane Sterling and Brian Webb along with Brian Cline-‘The Country Elvis and Shane Mathews, a true traditional country artist.

*Talent Contest: The Big D Opry is looking for new talent and will select three finalists to perform on stage on April 30. Aspiring country artists should email their contact information, photo and audio or video clip and/or link of their music to info@atexasstyle.com by April 28. The audience on the 30th will vote for their favorite and the winner will earn a spot in the lineup of the next Opry and the opportunity to sell their single online on www.atexasstyle.com, the online shopping destination for Texas-made products that benefits the Lone Star Dream Foundation.
