Dallas County Commissioner Ken Mayfield gets first challenger
Democrats have had a pretty good run in Dallas County the past couple of years, picking up the sheriff and county judge seats. Now they’re eying District 4 County Commissioner Ken Mayfield’s spot and Dallas County Community College Trustee Diana Flores is taking her shot. She’s filed to begin fundraising for the 2010 Democratic primary.
Mayfield’s district includes portions of Duncanville and DeSoto. He’s served since 1994 but in 2006 Rose Renfroe (a 2008 Duncanville mayoral candidate) gave him a tough fight. Combine that with the problems Republicans are having and many Democrats think Mayfield is in more danger than ever. The biggest name hovering around the race so far is Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Elba Garcia, who is expected to file.
