Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra’s “Season Finale” will feature Eric Barr, Oboe

The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra’s “Season Finale” will be on Sunday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Meyerson Symphony Center. Featuring Eric Barr, retired Principal Oboe of the Dallas Symphony, performing Vivaldi’s Oboe Concerto in d minor.
The orchestra, led by Maestro Richard Giangiulio, will perform Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis and Hovhaness’ Mount St. Helens.
Tickets for the performance are $8-$30 and you can purchase them at 214-528-7747 or the night of the performance at the Meyerson Box Office. The Meyerson is located at 2301 Flora Street in Dallas. For more information go to www.gdyo.org or email info@gdyo.org.

Eric Barr recently retired from the Principal Oboe chair of the Dallas Symphony which he held for the past thirty three years. Before that, Barr was a member of the Atlanta Symphony and the United States Marine Band in Washington, D.C. Barr holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Catholic University and was professor of oboe at Southern Methodist University from 1985 to 2005. Barr was principal oboe of the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra for twenty years and performed with the Boston Symphony as acting associate principal oboe in 1985, 1987 and 1990. His wife Catherine is the director of Texas Winds Musical Outreach, a Dallas-based nonprofit organization that provides music to those citizens unable to attend live concerts.
