Duncanville has local version of “tea party”
Residents from Duncanville and other Best Southwest cities joined the state and nationwide “tea party” protest April 15.
“We are putting the word out we are going to do something,” Donna Barnes said.
She and other protesters were most upset about bailout money offered to major banks and other financial institutions, first by the Bush Administration last fall, then the Obama Administration.
But Barnes said she didn't think the banks were that bad off.
Another protester, Dixie Sedgwick, said that even if the banks were that bad off, government intervention was not the answer.
“Let the markets work instead of micromanaging,” she said.
Sedgwick admitted the economic recession was a valid consideration, but still thought the government shouldn't interfering in the financial world. Nita Dressel had similar worries, saying government “meddling in private business (is) unconstitutional.”
In the Best Southwest area, another one was held at Midlothian's Heritage Park.
