League of Women Voters election survey: Gary Springer, candidate for Dallas City Council, District 7

The League of Women Voters of Dallas sent a questionnaire to every candidate running for public office in Dallas County. The election on May 9 features a number of city council races.

The responses of Gary Wayne Springer, who is running for the District 7 seat on the Dallas City Council, appear below. Springer is running against seven other opponents - incumbent Carolyn R. Davis, Charles "Chazz" Redd, Marvin E. Crenshaw, Ron Price,John Jay Myers, Anthony "Tony" Rios, and Donald P. Parish, Sr.

LWV: What are your qualifications for this office?

Springer: I have been engage in Dallas I Media as a member and volunteer for over 10 years I produce and Host my show The Gary Springer and Salt and Pepper Show , My shows have been promoting small business through Dallas metroplex, and non-profit organizations , educators, businessmen..

LWV: The City of Dallas has a potential $100M shortfall in the next city budget. How would you close the gap? If you would cut services, which ones would you cut?

Springer: Cut some services, and revamp the parking meters to cause more of the public would do business in downtown. Remove the photo traffic stop lights in Dallas, I would have the police dept buy more economic cars, more fuel efficient.

LWV: Are you in favor of a convention center hotel? If yes, do you support the current plan to finance its construction with revenue bonds and have the city own the hotel?

Springer: I would make every effort to stop the building of the new convention hotel . I’m totally against the new convention center hotel, we are in a serious financial crisis.

LWV: What is your response to recent reports (e.g., Corps of Engineers, North Texas Tollway Authority) regarding the Trinity River tollroad/levee issues?

Springer: I have to investigate these items more, it would not be right too elaborate at this time.

LWV: Do you think the City of Dallas Ethics Code needs to be strengthened? If yes, in what way(s)?

Springer: I have to study this and get more information.
