Trophy Club announces 2008 Citizen of the Year Awards, Nominees

2008 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARDS and NOMINEES

At their April 20, 2009 meeting, Mayor Sanders recognized the following as recipients of the 2008 Citizen of the Year Award:

Philanthropic Category – Wendy Moss

Philanthropic Volunteer Citizen of the Year – recognized for their outstanding work with a non-profit organization (for example: raising funds, coordinating philanthropic events for the organization, overseeing distribution of funds, etc.)

Civic Category – Rick Gilliland

Civic Volunteer Citizen of the Year – recognized for their outstanding work in schools, local government, parent teacher organizations, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, 4H Clubs, etc.

Teenage Category – Alyssa Edstrom

Teenage Volunteer Citizen of the Year – a citizen between the ages of 12 and 18 who made a difference in our community or schools.

Mayor Sanders also presented certificates to each of the following nominees:

Laura Venator - For her involvement with our community and great leadership with the children of Trophy Club. She is a positive role model for our children and parents.

Rick Gilliland – For his countless unselfish hours blessing Troop 328 with a servant heart! He not only is actively involved in the Towns youth and President of the TC Baseball assoc.

J.D. Stotts - As the Chair of the Park Board where he has invested above and beyond required of him in this position, actively serves on the Park Facilities Sub committee, The Park Plan Task Force, The Trophy Club Youth Baseball Assoc. J.D. volunteered for every special event that Trophy Club held last year!

Jackie Stevens – For her amazing leadership. Jackie is a nurse and mother of two wonderful kids. She has served many homes over the past ten years. She would love to see Trophy Club get our own "Food Pantry" for our homeless and people that lose their jobs.

Lou Hocker – For his devoted time and energy to make our town look great! He does an unbelievable job! He has a caring spirit as well. He takes time to help animals in need and shares interesting things and facts about the creatures and wildlife around the Lakes with Trophy Club children.

Wendy Moss – For her unselfish service with a true heart of joy on two children's advocacy boards: Capital for Kids: As a board member she assists and organize major events resulting in raising over $900,000 in 2008. Dallas Children's advocacy Center: She provided therapy to over 1,600 children last year and educated 13,000 people. She worked on special events such as an Art Fundraiser raising over 375,000 and Hosting a PJ's for PJ at Hotel Zsa Zsa where guests donated 450 pajamas and donated over 4,000 dollars. She is also a member of Les Dames d'Escoffier: This is a philanthropic society of professional women leaders in the fields of Hospitality, food and fine beverages. All proceeds go to local charities.

Alyssa Edstrom – For her "lets get this done and make a difference" attitude! She gives consistently 20 hrs a week of her time while maintaining an A-B grade average! She has served by leading in big ways in the following areas: Trophy Club Fall Festival, Holiday Tour of Homes, Gingerbread House Contest, JR. class President, Fundraising chairperson NHS student council, Junior class homecoming float, Sidekick Drill team. She has a sincere heart of love and could easily be considered for EITHER age bracket for Citizen of the Year! Devotes a significant time and effort to a variety of volunteer activities in both our Town and at the NISD School.
