Arlington GM plant workers to get long (forced) summer vacation

General Motors has announced that their Arlington truck-assembly plant will shut down operations beginning after the second shift on May 8 and keep its doors closed until July 13.

The Arlington plant work stoppage is one of 13 in the U.S. and Mexico on the GM agenda, with the pickup plant in Fort Wayne, IN set to be idled the longest (for 11 weeks).

The Arlington truck-assembly plant typically churns out about 950 SUVs per day.

They also are getting paid (about 75%) of their actual pay (if they worked the assembly line). This includes state paid unemployment checks and union checks. So this is kind of a nice gig for the unemployed UAW workers getting some paid time off.

If you are citizen Joe (not a union member) and collected unemployment, as many are these days, you aren't allowed to receieve payments from any source other than the state. Otherwise your unemployment benefits will be terminated.

Precisely why I have little sympathy for GM...
